Japanese Hair Straightening Review
Le Salon Chinois

Japanese hair straightening:

I have spent all of my life singing the "I-was-born-with-frizz-curly-hair" blues. Envious of my friends with their sleek, straight locks, I have spent endless amounts of time berating my hair with every hair straightening and de-frizzing product on the market.  I have spent countless hours with every available device – the flat iron,  the hair dryer with the flat brush, the rounded brush, only to find that the slightest hint of inclement weather or an inkling of perspiration would instantly return my hair to it’s comfortable state of being – a chaotic, frizzy mess.  No amount of avoidance of the swimming pool parties, romantic walks in the rain or picnics in the park on a humid summer day could keep my uncontrollable tresses from their deadly return.  And then came the solution that I had been searching for throughout my entire life – the Japanese Hair Straightening technique at Le Salon Chinois.

Before my visit to Le Salon Chinois, I would never have imagined that I could actually reverse a problem that I had become so accustomed to dealing with on a daily basis. I could not comprehend the possibility of actually fulfilling my dreams of spending a beautiful day on the beach, swimming in the ocean, and having my hair dry to perfection, enabling me to walk straight to that beachfront restaurant looking like I had just walked out of a salon.  I could not fathom how I could spend a humid day in the park, followed by a workout at the gym, and my hair would maintain its sleek, smooth texture without a hint of frizz. These were situations that I had only fantasized about. Who knew that my life was about to drastically change forever.

I can best define my experience at Le Salon Chinois as the closest that I will ever feel to experiencing a miracle. Upon entering the salon, I immediately felt welcomed by the extremely friendly and attentive staff.  The spacious salon made me feel much more at ease than many other boutique salons, which are often congested, and much less airy then Le Salon Chinois.  The very sleek design and comfortable ambience provided a very inviting environment for me to embark on my journey.

My venture began with my stylist explaining that there were three steps to what would become the hair of my dreams.  The three steps consisted of the perm solution stage, the flat iron stage, and the neutralizer stage. To prepare for this three step process, my hair was washed in a very impressive, fully reclining leather chair, by far the most relaxing chair that my body has ever had the fortune to experience in my long history of visiting salons. My affair with these comfortable chairs would become more important throughout this process, as the procedure entailed numerous visits to the hair washing chair.

After my initial wash, perm solution was meticulously applied to my hair, about ¼ inch at a time. I invited the timely process, as it was a way to ensure that each strand would be equally as straight and sleek as its neighboring strands.  After a series of applications followed by an equal amount of can’t-forget-about-those-comfortable-chairs rinses, my hair was dried and flat ironed with two thermal flat irons of different of varying sizes, a section at a time.  After this stage, my hair already looked FABULOUS.  At that moment, I could have walked out of the salon as a very happy (and sexy) client.  However, my stylist explained that the neutralizer needed to be applied in order to complete the process of changing the direction of the cuticle.  Excited at the prospect, I embarked on my final stage of the process. Very similar to the initial process of applying the perm solution, minus a bit of time, my hair was divided into small sections and treated with a neutralizer, accompanied by one final wash.

Following the neutralization, my hair was exquisitely cut in a fashion that perfectly framed my face and emphasized my new smooth, stunning hair.  The most thrilling component of my entire experience came when my hair was dried in a brief five minutes, the only tool being the magic fingers of my stylist – no products, no brushes, no irons – my dreams had finally surfaced and come true!  The five-hour process was worth every minute, as I would now  have numerous extra hours each week that used to be spent getting half the results that I had now been given. A week later, I feel like a new person.

This week, I have sweat at the gym, gone swimming at the beach, spent hours on end in humid weather, and my hair has stayed just as gorgeous as it was on that miraculous day when I left the salon.  Friends of mine comment on how stunning my hair looks, and how they had experienced past upsets at salons who had advertised having Japanese Hair Straightening techniques, only to find that  their frizzy curls returned immediately, much like many other imitation hair straightening techniques.  At Le Salon Chinois, when they say that the cuticle of your hair will completely change, they really mean it. Their claim to completely transform your hair from curly, untamable locks to sleek, straight tresses is 100% accurate.  I am still shocked by the results.  I’d write more, but I need to empty my drawers full of hair care products and devices, followed by a walk in the park on this wonderful humid day in New York City!
