Color Extraordinaire
Vartali Salon
I
have the over-processed look of someone who has sort of blond hair, who
had it highlighted 6 months ago, and has been in the sun and the pool the
entire summer. Yeah, it looks real pretty. That, plus my near white
eyebrows from same said chlorine and sun, makes me look like I haven’t
slept in weeks. What to do? Vartali to the rescue!
Vartali
Salon located on 57th street on New York City's East Side
is a cozy little salon with big style. Originally started in Europe and
still located in Lyon, France, this New York City location has all the
European style of its French counterpart with a downtown New York City
flair. I needed a little French style for this burnt out New Yorker. So of
course Vartali was a no brainier. Time to treat my tresses to a
little TLC French style.
Vartan
Vartali put me in the very able hands of Marco, my handsome
colorist. My hair was feeling better already! Marco and I assessed my hair
situation. He agreed that the color that I was currently sporting was a
little less than natural looking, although not horrible. (Girls, I would
not go around with horrible hair. I just want you all to know
that.) But I certainly did need a fix me up. Marco explained that he would
match the color I had on my ends to touch up my roots and then he would
add in highlights as well as low lights to add dimension. I have curly
hair, which can look a little one dimensional and flat if it is all one
color. I have always liked my hair to have many colors in it, like when I
was a kid with my natural blond hair. Yes, I want that back, but this time
can you make it a little more Hollywood. Like my baby hair meets Jessica
Simpson cover of ELLE. Guess what? He can do that! I have definitely
picked the right salon. I can finally relax and let the pampering begin. I
always hate those hair color moments when you are so nervous because you
are going to some one new and you are afraid that they will not understand
what you want and then you have to take off your glasses so they can start
and then you can’t see and you are totally panicking! Sometime that
feeling never goes away. And here I was only 5 minutes into my
consultation and I felt totally able to take my glasses off and relax.
Marco
took his time and divided my hair in small sections. Mixing in highlights
and lowlights throughout, as he saw fit. He also suggested that I dye my
eyebrows a shade darker so that my blue eyes would really pop. In an hour
or so my whole head was transformed into a blond goddess. The color was so
shiny and multi- blond hued. All the shades were so subtle that you
couldn’t really separate them from each other, but the color just looked
really good and natural and like I was a babe. That is the best way
that I can describe it. And I never would have expected my eyebrows to
look as good as they did a shade darker. Just by making them a slight bit
browner they framed my face and made my eyes really blue. I no longer
looked tired, even with no makeup on.
After my blowout I looked like a whole new woman. Ohh-la-la move
over Jessica Simpson.
Vartali
Salon has one of the most attentive and courteous staffs that I
have encountered in New York City. They are highly skilled and
unpretentious but with a ton style and glamour. They made me rethink the
way that I color my hair and have made me feel like a glamorous star.
Thank you Vartali for fixing my worn out, tired hair.
