Body Scrub & Massage West Village New York City

Spa it up in the Village
Body Scrub, Swedish Massage, Mani/Pedi
Vada Spa

Upon walking into Vada Spa for the first time, I realized what a unique and needed addition this is to the west village.  Located on 6th avenue and Waverly Place , this is not your ordinary nail place.  Rather, it is a full service salon and spa with some extras that you won’t expect but that you’ll want to keep coming back for.

The spa itself is 2 floors.  The bottom floor is entirely dedicated to manis/pedis and waxing.  They also offer laser hair removal as well, if  you want to get rid of that unwanted hair once and for all.  Upstairs is the salon, the outdoor patio (complete with cozy outdoor furniture), and the spa treatment rooms.  From the moment you walk in, you realize that everything is beautifully appointed.  From the modern fixtures in the nail area to the warming dark wood and dim lighting in the spa area, everything is beautiful.

My visit started with a body scrub followed by a Swedish massage.  Nikita was my therapist and he started by asking me what scent of body scrub I would like.  After hearing the list of choices (cranberry is their most requested) I settled on the chocolate peppermint.  I’ve had several scrubs that are infused with a scent, but this one smelled exactly as I had wanted it to.  In addition to using the scrub itself, Nikita put on sloughing gloves to encourage the dead skin off of my body.  From the scrub, smelling quite like a delicious dessert, I went to the shower.  Nikita already had a fresh towel and robe waiting for me in the bathroom.

While I rinsed myself off, I realized how supple and smooth my skin was. It felt great.  When I returned to the room, Nikita had removed the plastic covering from the massage table and prepared it for the massage.  I quickly got situated under the sheet.  I personally always like it best when a spa has a sheet to go over me versus just a towel.  Sometimes I get a little chilly and this way I am totally covered and cozy!  Nikita did a good job on the body scrub, but it’s clear that his specialty is the massage.  I like a good deal of pressure and he was able to deliver and really get to some of the knots and tense areas that I had building up in my back.  He also paid a lot of attention to my feet and calves, which I would’ve never thought needed it but they most certainly did.

When it was all said and done, I was so relaxed that I wasn’t sure I would be able to stay awake for my manicure and pedicure.  I am glad that I did, but it was a little difficult.  I will start with their pedicure chairs, which did not help me to stay awake.  They have a massage mechanism in the chair (like many do) that was fantastic.  It continued to work around my shoulder blades and lower back and my neck was supported by a great big pillow on the chair, basically- naptime.  Not only was this a particularly good part of the pedicure but Rima my pedicurist was the sweetest.  She got me water several times, which I needed after the massage and did a great job at gently yet efficiently making my feet look like they were ready for sandals – let’s just say it had been a while between pedicures.

The best thing about both the mani and the pedi was the blue marine mint mask that she used.  I would highly recommend the Spa Mani Pedi (just $45 for both).  Not only do they use a scrub on your hands and feet but then use this mask which stays on only for about 5 minutes but you feel the effect of for at least a couple hours afterward.  It started tingling a bit about a minute into having it on and continued to cool, tingle and refresh my hands and feet for hours after leaving Vada Spa.  I would definitely take some girl friends next time- especially since they can accommodate up to 5 people at a time for manis or pedis.

The last thing that tips the scales in Vada’s favor is that it is reasonably priced.  $45 for the Spa Manicure and Pedicure and an average of $80 for a one-hour massage is a pretty good deal and a great deal when the quality of services are this good and the décor and location are this fabulous!  Spa it up in the Village!
