The
Sports Club/LA Splash
Exclusive Eminence Facial
Review |
One of New York City’s hidden
treasures is the impressive Splash spa at The Sports Club/LA Splash.
And one of Splash’s not-so-hidden treasures is esthetician
Francesca Castaldo, facialist extraordinaire.
I visited Francesca a few days ago
for the Exclusive Eminence Facial, a service utilizing organic Hungarian
herbs and fruits to bring a one-of-a-kind glow to the skin.
Eminence is a fascinating line, including products like a Lemon
Cleanser and Wild Plum Tonique, not to mention the scrumptious Carrot
Vitamin Masque (my personal favorite.)

Francesca met me in the waiting area, where I was
thumbing though the extensive selection of herbal teas.
I knew immediately that I was in for a treat. She emanated warmth. In
fact, a regular client was on her way out of the room as I was on
the way in. She had
come running to Francesca with some face-based crisis or another,
and Francesca had made enough time to console her and plan a
solution. Already, it
was clear why this esthetician has so many return clients.
And as the hour went on, it became more and more so.
The Exclusive Eminence Facial begins with the
Lemon Cleanser, the first of many yummy smells.
Cesca explained everything as we went, telling me about the
creation of the Eminence line (based on a Hungarian grandmother’s
recipes.) The plethora
of delicious smells in the room was heavenly, and as Francesca mixed
each treatment, I almost felt like I was in an old Hungarian kitchen
myself. |

One of the highlights of this facial
is the use of a paprika-based cream that actually draws blood to the
surface of skin, rejuvenating tired flesh and combating clogged pores. I actually felt a flush rise from my neck and into my cheeks,
and when I left Splash that day, my skin had a luminous glow.
Another must-mention highlight is the
Carrot Vitamin Masque. With a
scent that will leave you dreaming of carrot cake, this masque soothes
away tension and eradicates dry skin.
Also included in the facial are the
typical moments of exfoliation and extraction (no steam,) but the feel and
focus of the Exclusive Eminence are of lying peacefully in a cottage
somewhere in Hungary while a wise woman mixes organic treatments for your
skin.
Being swept off to Hungary for an hour of organic
facial pampering and relaxation… that’s what I’d call a nice
deviation from your typical facial.
