Brazilian Brave
Eyebrow Threading, Brazilian Waxing Review
Shobha
Salon
The “Brazilian” it was something that was unspoken for quite sometime, until
the “Sex and the City” gals made us feel like it was Ok to discuss -
and
we SHOULD! I have had
numerous waxings, some good, some bad, and some really Bad! We as
women need to look out for each other, it’s a delicate area –and needs
the proper care and attention from someone who knows what they are doing.
For those women who have never had a Brazilian wax or those who just
can’t seem to find the right salon - look no further, I have found the
place; SHOBHA! A hidden
treasure downtown in the mecca of one of New York’s hippest shopping
areas. It is one of two
salons owned by Shobha a young entrepreneur who I now consider a goddess
after going to her salon. Shobha got it right with her salon, it’s the
whole package, hidden in a corporate like setting on Broadway, this 4th
floor Indian inspired salon had a great relaxed atmosphere with an amazing
staff that catered toward making the customer feel good, and they did.
Every Customer who left the salon had a smile on their face, because for
the first time they trusted the staff because they are all well versed in
waxing and threading, their specialty. Not only do the customers trust
Shobha and her staff but now many Beauty magazines are flocking to her
salon for helpful tips for women in need of waxing/threading
“911”. I’m always nervous when I get a Brazilian, but the staff put
me at ease. My specialist made sure I was comfortable by adjusting the
room temperature and explaining everything that was going to be done, I
finally relaxed when I knew I was in good hands. She
was extremely detail oriented and made sure to ask me exactly what I
wanted. The Shobha Salon uses a sugar gel which is a form of hair removal
but is much less painful, it is made of natural ingredients which is great
for those who have sensitive skin. It’s a warm gel that adheres to the
hair and not the skin. Sugar gel is also great because those stubborn
hairs that just don’t want to come out-will and with little to no pain.
Also for the few stray hairs left they use Threading to remove them, which
is less irritating to the skin (and lasted much longer than tweezing - in my
experience ) One thing
I also learned was that Rosewater Toner that was used after the waxing
helps prevent ingrown hairs and helped soothe and cool my skin. This
Brazilian lasted much longer than others I’ve had done in the past. I
was also so pleased with the Shobha Salon that I also had my
eyebrows threaded to. All of the
employees are trained professionals who go through workshops and classes,
so these women know what they are talking about. Someone finally explained
what I was doing wrong with my eyebrows and how it could be fixed. And let
me tell you, one little detail like that can change your face for the
better. I felt great
after leaving Shobha - I looked good and learned a few things. So
ladies treat yourself and make yourself feel sexy, be brave and get a Brazilian!
You’ll Thank me later.

Thanks,
Kathy. But no thanks. I may not be the brave New Yorker you are when it
comes to Brazilians, but I still have waxing needs and Shobha is still the
place for those of us not as adventuresome as Kathy. Shobha
specializes in hair removal, specifically the centuries old techniques of
sugaring and threading. As soon as I entered I, also, was
instantly soothed. The space was airy and the decor was understated,
yet exotic--very relaxing. I enjoyed the mellow Indian music playing
in the back ground and was immediately shown to a private room. My
first service was Sugaring. I chose only half my arm, but Shobha
offers sugaring removal on any area except the face. It is form of hair
removal "dating back to the civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and
Greece." Sugaring is similar in technique to waxing, but far
better. The ingredients are all natural (sugar, water and lemon
juice) which makes this ideal for sensitive skin and since the custom-made
gel only adheres to the hair, there is little skin irritation. Heena,
the wonderful lady who performed my sugaring was great. She
explained everything she was doing and I didn't feel like she was
rushed or bored. My next service was eyebrow threading, an ancient
method of hair removal from South Asia. A single thread is
"twisted and pulled along the area of unwanted hair, lifting it
directly from the follicle." Shobha offers threading anywhere
on the face. I was a little apprehensive going in because I
recently went tweezer happy and had some serious brow issues, but I met
with Smita, a threading genius and we came up with a brow plan!
It was amazing to me that a piece of thread, that was far less painful
than waxing could create such a clean brow. I was hooked and plan to
nix the plucking and have Smita on my speed dial. The whole visit
took 30 minutes and I felt refreshed when I left. I'll definitely be
back. And maybe one day I will even make Kathy proud, but for now I am
just happy to have found Shobha.
