Play in the
Mud at Oasis Day Spa
De-toxifying Mud Wrap Review |
As Mother’s Day approaches,
gift ideas either seem to come out of the woodwork, or shrink from site
altogether. Well, if you’ve decided to give your mother a day, or hour,
of luxury at an NYC spa (which is a brilliant decision), look no further
than Oasis Day Spa. And if
your mother likes the idea of a de-stressing, revitalizing full-body skin
treatment, consider Oasis’ famous Detoxifying Mud Wrap.
I experienced the mud wrap
recently with adorable aesthetician Jaime.
The process is as simple as it is relaxing.
As with any wrap, near nudity is required, although Oasis provides
these cute little pseudo-undies and shields a client with towels upon
standing. (Me, I prefer just
being naked, but the undies are great for the more nude-conscious.)
|
I began lying on my front on the
Mylar (an aluminum-foil-like sheet in which I would eventually be
wrapped), while Jaime painted my back, arms, and the backs of my
legs with the mud mixture. This
alone was fairly relaxing. Then,
a quick flip and the front of my body was being slathered in mud.
(The thing I love about this kind of service is that it feels
so uninhibited, like when I was a child and used to come home
covered in mud and grass – if only I knew of the skin benefits
then.)
Once “painted,” I was wrapped in the
Mylar and covered with warm towels.
This was surprisingly comfortable, and I found myself nearly
drifting off to sleep at times.
Now here is an important difference I noticed: when I’ve
had similar wraps at other spas, I’ve been left at this point to
“de-tox,” alone in the room.
Rather than desert me, Jaime stayed and performed a wonderful
scalp and foot massage while my skin soaked in the benefits of the
wrap. I definitely appreciated Oasis’ level of client attention. |

After a while, it was time to
un-wrap. The Mylar was opened
and I was suddenly experiencing the warmth of the Vichy shower.
The many heads of the shower massaged away the mud with a delicate
spray until I was a clean and newly detoxified woman. My skin felt incredibly soft and I was at a peak of
relaxation.
I would recommend this service
to any wrap-lover, or first time wrappee.
It isn’t too much or too little of anything, it’s just right.

Special Note:
While I was at Oasis, I was also given the opportunity to sample a
new body scrub treatment, called Body Coffee.
With exfoliating granules and a yummy scent, I can only imagine the
treatments Oasis will develop with this new product.
Be on the look-out, ye pamper-conscious New Yorkers!
Tips for the Detoxifying Mud
Wrap at Oasis:
-Always consider removing contact lenses with this kind of treatment.
If you don’t, they’ll take special care around your eyes, but
you might be more comfortable without the lenses.
-Speak up if you have any level of discomfort at any time.
Your aesthetician can make simple changes (like water temperature,
etc.) to make sure you’re at the height of luxury.
-If you’re happy with this, or any other spa/salon service, tip at least
15-20%.
