Being a hair-color addict, I was recently in desperate need of a
root touch-up. Therefore I was thrilled with the service at Le
Salon Chinois where I met with Danielle, who has
been specializing in color for 7 years. The friendly
staff welcomed me, immediately offering me tea and other
refreshments, and making me feel very comfortable.
The saga of my thick brown hair started when I began turning grey at
a very early age. I have since been fending off those
tell-tale strays on my own for about 10 years. I have also
been growing my hair long for about two and a half years, so
although I have always stayed close to my natural color, the result
has been a slight variation in color over time.
During our pre-color consultation, Danielle immediately
picked up on these subtle shades in my hair. Aside
from the grey roots coming in, she also pointed out a light band
close to the roots, a darker shade below that, and a reddish tint
near the ends. They were slight differences, but it
was amazing how quickly Danielle noticed them and was able to
offer a recommendation to correct the color damage. She also
took into consideration my skin tone and wanted to offer me a color
that would best compliment my face and keep my skin looking bright.
Danielle
suggested a few options,
and we decided that the best thing to do would be to work
with the dark color as a base, and add a few very subtle
highlights which would serve as a corrective measure.
Danielle knew that true highlights would not be the most
feasible option for me, considering the maintenance involved with
my hair color. This solution would allow me to bring in
a bit of variation, yet I would still be able to continue my own
maintenance at home.
I
appreciated this, since many salons will try to sell you whatever
services and products they can by using scare tactics.
Danielle understood that I have been coloring my own hair for
many years, and although there may be slight inconsistencies over
time, it is still the most realistic option for me. So
this hair color correction served as an excellent
opportunity to get everything back looking great.
First
Danielle separated tiny strands of hair for the highlights and
painted on the lighter color, then painted the main color on my
roots. The color only needs to stay on for 30 minutes,
during which time you can go upstairs and get a manicure or a
pedicure in the beautiful new Spa Chinois! Next I was
taken to the shampoo sink where the color was run through to
the ends. After that, I received two glazes to seal in the
color: one which Danielle had tinted slightly to balance out the
red in my hair, and the other clear. I was then rinsed
in one of the wonderful reclining chairs, where I had a fantastic
shampoo and head massage.
The
final step was the blowdry and style, which
I feel is often difficult for stylists who are not accustomed to
my hair texture. Danielle,
however, did a beautiful job of managing my wavy hair and
giving me the nice straight style that I prefer. Le Salon
Chinois has an expert staff who will set you at ease by
assessing your hair and explaining the processes. Their color
services are excellent for anyone who is interested in any
type of color, whether it be highlights, a brand new color, or an
overall corrective process such as I had. Factor in the beautiful
decor, the relaxing environment, and the welcoming staff, and you
have a perfect salon experience!
