You
know those annoying people who sit in the chair and have the GALL to
say to the stylist “um, well, I don’t really want you to, like, CHANGE
the color of my hair. I just want it, you know, to be different.
And um, can you not really take off any length or alter the shape of
my style…but just make it look better
and really great???”
Well, those people are ME and those were basically my obnoxious
directions as I settled in for my afternoon at the Le
Chinois Salon.
Lucky
for me - Le Salon Chinois houses not only a hair HAVEN but also some
of the most adaptable and could-they-be-any friendlier? people I
have ever encountered in the beauty-biz of our beloved New York
City. I mean, really! Someone call the nice police.

Jose,
Chinois’s premier colorist (formally with Frederic Fekkai)
assessed my hair and calmed my
“i’ve-never-had-my-hair-colored-before-so-please-don’t-screw-this-up”
nerves with his astute professionalism and obvious knack for color.
He decided that using his “painting technique” would be
the best bet for my platinum coif, in which he spent an intense and
dedicated hour meticulously painting each strand of hair.
He joked that people referred to him as the
“Michelangelo” of colorists, and I can assure you- they aren’t
kidding. Jose is a
master, no doubt.
After
the color set, I was lovingly directed to the shampoo chair, which
to my liking- was one of the newer designed chairs that allow you to
fully recline, providing the utmost comfort. Ahhhhh…the shampoo.
Too often I find salons overlook the shampoo experience, but
not here, my friends. I
was treated to a ten minute scalp massage, nested between TWO
conditioning treatments. Very,
very nice. I arose from the relaxing shampoo/massage and was brought
some lovely hot tea, which was the perfect addition to this Zen-like
experience. |

Next,
my stylist Patty McCay took the reigns as she snipped and razored
her way to a shapely, layered look, which I absolutely adore!!
Without dramatically changing my cut, she still managed to give it a
modern edge with simple, clean lines.
After blowing it out, she even showed me several ways to
style it- which is certainly going the extra-mile for a very busy
stylist in a popular salon. And
to top if off, she called over Jose (the colorist) and suggested he
color my brows to “complete the look.”
Will these people stop being so helpful for crying out
loud??!! I am going to
start expecting it wherever I go, which I am sure will only result
in utter disappointment.
Le
Salon Chinois is a MUST for your salon repertoire, especially if you
are someone like me and find yourself a little hesitant of drastic
change. The impeccable
staff takes to heart your concerns and still manages to send you on
your way with a totally fresh and
absolutely fabulous do! Fear
not, oh timid colorless coifs!
This is the place for you.
