Authentic
shiatsu massage at iDO Holistic Center in midtown Manhattan is
simply awesome. IDO Holistic Center just opened their new location at 22
East 49th street and the spa is spotless, clean, and slick. A lot of
thought went into the spa from the hypo-allergenic chemical free paint and
hardwood floors to the ionized water they serve. The spa feels in perfect
balance, which is appropriate because that is the goal of shiatsu, to give
you balance in body and mind. Shiatsu focuses on pressure points in your
body through which "chi" energy flows. Manipulating these points
removes any blockage and allows the energy to flow more freely and balance
your body. Also, did I mention shiatsu is amazingly relaxing.
My
massage began by climbing under a sheet. All of the massage is through
this sheet. The pressure was strong and focused. I loved it. My favorite
moment was when my masseuse took my arm and gently bent it behind my back
causing my scapula to poke out a bit. My masseuse was then able to massage
under it. Never having had such specific focus on that pressure point
before, that at first it was intense, but when my arm was put back by my
side I could feel the tension release and the whole side of my body felt
open and calm and well, balanced.
The
massage ended with a head and face massage. The masseuse was very thorough
getting up under my eyebrows and temples and scalp. Heaven. I left
the pristine spa feeling lighter, calmer and feeling in balance. That
shiastu massage stuff really works. In a city that can easily unbalance
you and stress you out, thank goodness that iDO Holistic Center is there
to put you back together.
