Third Entry (4 months)

It’s the end of the fourth month and I am still seeing results. The strength and fullness of my hair continues to improve and now, thanks to the lighted microscope camera, I can actually see RE-GROWTH. The photos below are from the hard-to-regrow area of the front of the scalp or the widow’s peak area (actually taken in mid October). As you can see there are tiny hairs coming in in two and threes. This is the peach fuzz I talked about in my first entry (week 2.) This continued improvement is happening in spite of the fact that I have been a bit lax in my visits since my last writing – some weeks I only got to the salon once for thirty minutes.

As I discussed my progress with one of the staff last month, they told me that the most improvement usually occurs in the 5th and 6th month. He didn’t tell me this in response to me complaining there had been no results thus far, he told me this because there had already been noticeable improvement and he was letting me know there was probably more to come!

An exta tip: Really scrub the scalp when using the shampoo and conditioning products since exfoliating is a key in encouraging re-growth.

Second Entry (5 weeks)

I went in for a monthly meeting with Andrew to see how things had progressed. As I said in my first entry, I had noticed a slight amount of improvement but with new photos I  would really be able to tell.

IT’S WORKING.

First, my hair is definitely healthier so at the very least it appears fuller. And after taking pictures I could definitely see that, particularly in the crown and top center areas, there is much less scalp showing. The microscope pictures show an increase of fine new hair and there is no doubt that the existing hair is thicker. Now these results are similar to those promised by monxidil products alone but as I described in my first entry, monoxidil is only designed to improve the condition of your scalp to prevent further thinning and loss and to allow for the possibility of re-growth. Laser Hair Therapy is adding the crucial step of stimulating blood flow and taking the whole process to the next level. Remember, the Laser Hair Therapy program says you should see results within 6 months (and monoxidil products alone say longer than that) and the improvements I have experienced have come in only 5 weeks! I am absolutely encouraged by what I’m seeing and can’t wait to see what happens in the coming weeks and months.

First Entry (2 weeks)

I recently began a… well a treatment for my thinning hair and male pattern baldness. I’m very excited about the process, not only because it may actually work, but because if it does it will have been as easy as it is effective.

Andrew DiSimone, a well known Manhattan hair stylist and owner of FaceStation hair salon and makeup studio, came to us at spa-nyc.com and said, “I have something new and amazing and I want everybody to know about it.” OK. Big discount? New hair product? New makeup line? Nope. What he wanted to share with us (and you!) so badly was a treatment for thinning hair and hair loss called Laser Hair Therapy. “Guys!” he said, barely containing his excitement, “This thing is WORKING!” So, as it is always our goal here at spy-nyc.com to help you by giving you as much information as possible – we decided to try it for ourselves and tell you about it.

I went to FaceStation on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan to see Andrew and to find out about Laser hair therapy. As he started to explain the process to me one thing was perfectly clear: He believes this process works. If that statement seems obvious, then allow me to make a distinction: When someone is trying to sell you something, they either believe in the product, or they believe they can sell you the product. Andrew is definitely the former. As he showed me pictures and news footage it was as if he was seeing them for the first time. Did I just say news footage? Yes, in addition to before and after photos, I also watched reports from legitimate news organizations talking about this breakthrough technology and even a reporter who went through the process and claimed – during a news cast not an infomercial – that it did indeed work for him. All the while Andrew is shaking his head in disbelief, “can you believe that?” he said to me several times. view news footage now

So, very simply, here’s what the process involves. I sit under what looks like a salon hair dryer and let low level lasers stimulate blood flow to my scalp three times a week. I was also given special hair products (shampoo and conditioner) as well as monoxidil, an over the counter treatment for hair loss which has been available for years, all designed to provide a healthy environment for my hair re-growth.

Now, for the purpose of this on-going review, I’ll just talk about my experience with the process. For the science behind it I refer you to two places:

How Laser Light Therapy stops hair loss

Andrew then took some photos of my hair and scalp. He took the standard photos you’ve seen before in association with hair loss products – from the top, from the back. But the really great photos, the ones that are going to show me even the slightest bit of progress are the ones he took using a lighted micro-scope camera that he placed directly against my scalp in five specific places on my head. I saw the photos instantly on his computer and he marked them accordingly and saved them for comparison.

At this point I have been doing the treatment for two weeks. I use the shampoo, conditioner and monoxidil daily and I’ve been to the salon for the laser treatment 5 times – twice the first week and 3 times (recommended) the second week – for 30 minutes each time. The shampoo and conditioner work just as well as what I was using before and the monoxidil is easily applied to the scalp and dries quickly so I don’t have to wait long to style my hair. As for the laser therapy part – it’s really tough – I sit there. They turn it on. I read a magazine. Meditate. It turns off. I’m done. My hair doesn’t even get messed up. That 30 minutes is the most I have sacrificed in the last two weeks. But it’s a small price to pay to get some hair back and to have thicker healthier hair. I am starting to see very light – peach fuzz like hairs coming in on either side of the widow’s peak. At this point I’m not sure if they are real or imagined but in two weeks I will take new photos (regular and microscopic) and be able to say for sure weather the process is working.
