all those makeover tv shows the person always ends up looking completely
transformed. But when I go in for my haircuts I always leave with only
slightly shorter hair. But when I left
Gloria Cabrera Salon and Spa, I left transformed! Look out
America's Next Top Model!
I got my
amazing transformation from a lovely man, Patrick Allen.
He has been cutting hair for many, many years here in New York
City.
He is calm, generous, fun and conversation was easy with him
through the entire cut. He
talked to me about the shape of my face and the thickness of my hair.
I should say thinness of my hair.
It is very thin. I have
a good amount of it, but there’s just no weight to it.
He talked about how most girls like me add so many layers to get
body that we actually take away from what little ‘weight’ we have.
Then he went to work and I asked all about his ‘journey’
through hair in the last 20 years. I
loved the fact that he had so much experience in the field and there was a
real difference in how he worked compared with other stylists that have
cut my hair before. I was
immediately comfortable with him.
By the
end, he did give me some layers to create the body that all thin-haired
girls want, but he left a nice long straight layer which gave my hair the
‘appearance’ of heaviness. You
know those thick-haired girls who have that lovely straight
line across their back that bounces and sways as they walk?
I had that! For the
first time, I had that! It
didn’t stop there. Patrick
made a couple of great product recommendations for me that help with fly-aways
and body. He gave my hair so
much body and curl, I could barely recognize it as my own.
He also gave me several styling secrets, that I feel like every
stylist knows but no one has ever given me before.
What fun!
