I
only recently read about eyelash extensions in a beauty magazine,
and I thought “Wow. If I could pick one beauty treatment to splurge on
right now, this would be it!” I fantasized about having the
gorgeous long lashes that fate (and genes) give only to the lucky few.
Fate, unfortunately, did not give them to me. And up until now, I
thought my small eyes with their rather skimpy fringe were hopeless.
Who knew that Eugenia, Skintology's eyelash extension expert, has
been perfecting the art of eyelash extensions in New York City for
eight years? Why didn’t someone tell me sooner! I relaxed at Skintology
for two hours with my eyes shut and when I opened them - voila! I
had big doe-eyes with the kind of lashes that elicit compliments from
strangers. I couldn't even tell where my “old” lashes ended and
the new ones began. Skintology's eyelash extensions are
seamless. Even upon very close inspection with a magnified mirror they
look like natural lashes; except these lashes are thicker, longer and much
more glamorous without any eye makeup at all. Yes, I think I am hooked.
When I arrived at Skintology in midtown Manhattan, Eugenia
greeted me with such graciousness that I immediately felt that I was in
good hands. Eugenia laughed when I told her that I was ready for any mild
torture of the eyeballs to achieve glamorous long eyelashes. I can
honestly say I never once felt any instrument she used touch my skin. It
just felt like someone was running their fingertips along the ends of my
lashes or like a gentle breeze was ruffling my lashes. I actually fell
asleep because the feeling was so deliciously relaxing. (She assured
me that this happens to most of her clients.) For me, the process
took about two hours. The extension process varies in time according
to what type of eyelashes you have: anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2
1/2 hours.
Eugenia
uses only products (such as the glue) made in the U.S. so she can control
the quality. The lashes themselves are either silk or real human
hair. The silk lashes are the best bet for anyone with allergies (to
dogs and cats, for instance) but they are slightly stiffer so she
recommends the natural hair lashes for everyone else.
You
can choose to have one of three different lengths of eyelash extensions:
“everyday” is shortest; “glamorous” is the medium size; and
a super long length used mostly for modeling and stage work. I asked
for something in between “everyday” and “glamorous.” Eugenia
assesses your existing lashes, and chooses from a variety of different
thicknesses, lengths, and amounts of curl to add to each lash. She
adds 50 to 60 eyelashes in total, using many different types on each eye
to create a natural look. When she showed me the tray with dozens of
varieties and told me which ones she chose for me and why, I realized that
eyelash extensions are really an art. I would compare it to the different
brush strokes that a painter uses to create something completely
believable and beautiful, but it was on ME. I was a plain canvas and
now am a masterpiece..
I
am not the kind of woman who looks great with no makeup on. The
first thing I said when I saw myself in the mirror was “That’s me?”
and the second was “ You mean I get to wake up in themorning looking
like like this? Hallelujah!” I never look awake and put
together without eye makeup and have always been extremely envious of
those “a dab of concealer and maybe some lip pencil and I’m out the
door” women. So unfair. I would love to be them. I’ve
tried to be them. But I could never pull it off. But now I
have definition and vividness that give my eyes shape, and seem to pull
focus from other little flaws. I don’t notice the unevenness of my skin
tone as much, and I don’t seem to have any dark circles under my eyes.
I think it’s just harder to notice them now because the focus is drawn
to my eyes themselves.
The
price for eyelash extensions is $450 and includes a touch-up appointment
one month later. But right now you can mention spa-nyc.com and
receive 15% off the price of your new eyelash extensions.
I
would highly recommend this for brides-to-be as a pre-wedding treat.
It will give an extra dewy-eyed look for the wedding, with the added bonus
of rolling out of bed every morning of the honeymoon looking fabulous.
It would also be great before a high school or college reunion, because it
really takes years off your looks. The very first thing my husband said
when he saw me with the eyelash extensions was “You look so much
younger!” If you have any special event for which you want to look
extra glamorous, this will definitely add some “bling” to your look.
In addition, Eugenia works successfully with clients who have lost
eyelashes and facial hair due to cancer treatments and other diseases in
which hair loss is a side effect.
No
matter who you are, you will love the results. And once you try
Manhattan's Skintology's
eyelash extensions, you’ll never want to be without the extra bling
in your blink!

Tips for
Eyelash Extensions at Skintology, NYC:
-There
is no preparation needed for the appointment, other than clean,
makeup-free lashes.
-You don’t have to remove your contact lenses for the process.
-The
eyelash extensions need very gentle care in order to last: No
waterproof mascara or oily eye makeup remover, and no use of an eyelash
curler. Oils will break down the glue used to attach the lashes.
With gentle care, the eyelash extensions should last six to eight weeks
for a person with normal to dry skin, and four to six weeks for a person
with oily skin. Soap and water are recommended to take off any eye
makeup.

least 15 - 20 %.
