Be Yourself, Dorit Baxter Cares.
(Waxing, Massage & Facial Package Review)
Dorit Baxter

Ugh - the rain! What is a girl to do? I know! How about an evening of beauty at Dorit Baxter New York Day Spa? Nestled above 57th street is a quiet oasis whose services are catered to the individual.

Immediately upon entering the spa I was taken care of. I was guided into the changing room where a few friendly and simple questions were asked as to my particular likes and needs. Apparently someone in this cold, wet, rainy city cared about me. Dorit Baxter was taking the time to get to know me and it made all the difference.

My first service was the dreaded bikini wax. Rebecca my waxer explained that Dorit Baxter uses a special organic wax that is not only geared toward sensitive skin but reduces ingrown hairs and contains vitamins that are actually great for the skin. And here I was thinking I was just being vain in removing some unwanted body hair. Much to my surprise my waxing was quick, thorough and pretty painless and I had none of the usual redness and swelling. Yeah!

Next I was off to my Swedish massage with Mira. Mira began by getting to know me. She asked me a few medical questions, as well as,  the degree of pressure I like with my massage. Then we were off. The first thing that struck me was the wonderfully light smell of the oil Mira was using to massage. I am a person who is very sensitive to smells, but this was a wonderful light lavender citrus smell that really calmed me. As the aroma settled me in, Mira went to work on my tension. She was amazing, very detail oriented. Of course I have had my share of massages, and to my delight Mira took time with parts of my body that are often neglected; ears, scalp, hands and feet. Usually those parts are just touched on but she really took time to assess my needs. (They really were all about the individuals needs, crazy!) . Any city girl that is a slave to fashion like I am knows that heels and city life do not mix. Mira used reflexology techniques on my tired feet and I was truly amazed at the results. Depending on where she was concentrating her pressure on my feet various things started occurring, my stomach started churning like I was digesting, my sinuses cleared and my face started to tingle. This extra reflexology and pressure points was quite incredible and it was all a part of the one hour massage.

The last service of my evening was one of Dorit Baxter’s facials. And guess what? Each facial is catered my my specific needs. My aesthetician Renee was very gentle and soothing. First she assessed my skin. She explained everything she was doing along the way. Renee actually taught me about my skin. This would be great for someone that has never had a facial before or someone who has been hesitant to get one. Heck, I get facials all the time and it was a learning experience to me. She cleansed me and did all the usual extractions once again with such attention to detail. She made sure that everything was comfortable and even checked to make sure the steam wasn’t affecting my asthma. Now I know that it sounds like I have a million needs, but it is really nice to have someone take into consideration not only your specific needs and likes, but mild medical conditions that others may  look past. The piece de la resistance was a paraffin mask that was selected for my specific skin (sensitive and combination). The paraffin, which was wonderfully peach scented, was rolled over a protective mask and the vitamin E cream that was put on my face prior. It was warm and very relaxing. I felt my facial tension melt away over the ten minutes the mask was on. This would be a wonderful treatment for someone with TMJ or migraines. The heat really relaxed the muscles under my face while the paraffin put nutrients and vitamins into my skin. I wished that it would never end. But alas it must. But the way all my individual needs were met with friendliness and experience that doesn't have to end. It is alive and well at the Dorit Baxter New York Day Spa. Go in and don't be afraid to be yourself.
