Today I had the pleasure of receiving an out-of-this-world facial at De Novo European Day Spa. Called the Alpha-Vital facial, this treatment was as relaxing as it was rejuvenating. It began with my aesthetician, Ilona, guiding me to a facial room, where I slipped out of my street clothes and under a comfy heated blanket.

This facial uses YON-KA techniques and products. (YON-KA is one of the most well-known and respected names in facial treatments.) Ilona explained to me that this Aha-Bha resurfacing treatment was made of a fresh fruit base, namely blueberry, pineapple, and lemon (yum!) I was quite concerned about the sensitivity factor, as I am a blonde and blue irritable-skinned kind of gal. I have often shied away from anything involving this level of exfoliation for that reason. However, this treatment was so truly gentle that I didn’t have an ounce of redness afterwards! I was amazed.

After a gentle cleansing, the bliss began. The fruit acid gel was applied under a soothing steam, and I experienced no stinging or sensitivity! I found myself slipping into such a relaxed state I could have easily drifted off. The facial included warm compresses and facial massage, sending me further into my zen state. But my favorite part was the “fruitplasty” peel off mask! Super-charged with moisturizing properties, this cool mask is painted onto the face and left to set for several minutes. While the mask was drying, I received a wonderfully soothing neck, shoulder and arm massage. I hadn’t thought I could get more relaxed, but it kept coming. When the mask was peeled off, my skin felt luminous. And as I came out of my virtual slumber, I saw in the mirror a smooth, newly awakened complexion. I was glowing!

Ilona recommended daily use of a cleansing gel, moisturizer, eye cream, and night-time formula to maintain the look and feel of the facial. I left De Novo feeling beautiful and relaxed, and I can’t think of any better way to spend an hour!
